উপনিবেশ বিরোধী চর্চা - মুঘল সাম্রাজ্য কৃষক-কারিগরদের শেষ পালক - ফৌজদারের শপথেও কৃষক রক্ষার কথা

{সুবাদার শপথেও কৃষকদের পালনের কথা মনে করিয়ে দেওয়া হত With my good behaviour to the peasants I will try my best to increase the cultivation and population}

সুবার সুবাদার, উজির, বক্সীর পরের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পদটি হল ফৌজদারের। মানুচির মতে সুবায় ফৌজদার দপ্তরের ভয়ে জমিদারেরা রাজস্ব দিত। ফৌজদারও পাদশাহ নিয়োগ করতেন এবং তার চাকরি যেত সম্রাটের ইচ্ছেয়। কখোনো কখোনো দেওয়ানকে ফৌজদারির অতিরিক্ত দায়িত্ব দেওয়া হত। অষ্টাদশ শতের প্রথম দিকে মুর্শিদিকুলিখাঁ একাধারে দেওয়ান অন্যদিকে ফৌজদারও।
ফৌজদারের দুটি দায়িত্ব, প্রাথমিকিভাবে ছোট সেনাবাহিনীর দায়িত্ব নিয়ে চাকলায় শান্তিশৃঙ্খলা বজায় রাখা। দ্বিতীয় চাকলার খালসা জমির রাজস্ব আদায় নিশ্চিত করা। শেষের দায়িত্বে তার কাজ আমিলের আমলগুজারের সমান। চাকলার দায়িত্ব নেওয়ার আগে ফৌজদারকে শপথ বাক্য পড়ানো হত।
১১৩২ বাংলা সনে(১৭২৫ খ্রি) যশোরের জনৈক ফৌজদার মীর মহম্মদ মেহদি এই ধরণের শপথবাক্য পাঠ করেন Taking the charge and administration of chakla Jessore I confess and agree to take proper care of the above mentioned parganas (i.e. parganas included into the chakla Jessore) and would see them mostly populated and the revenues collected from the above mentioned places in conformity with the will of the peasants would be sent to the government treasury. With my good behaviour to the peasants I will try my best to increase the cultivation and population.
If I fail to do above mentioned duties I hold myself fully responsible for the consequences according to the laws
of the government।
